Constraining the Lifetime of Quasars from Their Spatial Clustering
نویسنده
چکیده
The lifetime of the luminous phase of quasars is constrained by current observations to be 10 ∼< tQ ∼< 10 years, but is otherwise unkown. We model the quasar luminosity function in detail in the optical and X–ray bands using the Press–Schechter formalism, and show that the expected clustering of quasars depends strongly on their assumed lifetime tQ. We quantify this dependence, and find that existing measurements of the correlation length of quasars are consistent with the range 10 ∼< tQ ∼< 10. We then show that future measurements of the power spectrum of quasars out to z ∼ 3, from the 2dF or Sloan Digital Sky Survey, can significantly improve this constraint, and in principle allow a precise determination of tQ. We estimate the systematic errors introduced by uncertainties in the modeling of the quasar-halo relationship, as well as by the possible existence of obscured quasars. Calibrating the Galaxy Halo – Black Hole Relation Based on the Clustering of Quasars
The observed number counts of quasars may be explained either by long-lived activity within rare massive hosts, or by short-lived activity within smaller, more common hosts. It has been argued that quasar lifetimes may therefore be inferred from their clustering length, which determines the typical mass of the quasar host. Here we point out that the relationship between the mass of the black-ho...
متن کاملQuasar Clustering and the Lifetime of Quasars
Although the population of luminous quasars rises and falls over a period of ∼ 109 years, the typical lifetime of individual quasars is uncertain by several orders of magnitude. We show that quasar clustering measurements can substantially narrow the range of possible lifetimes with the assumption that luminous quasars reside in the most massive host halos. If quasars are long-lived, then they ...

Organizations have used Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) as an appropriate pattern to classify their customers. Data mining techniques have enabled organizations to analyze their customers’ behaviors more quantitatively. This research has been carried out to cluster customers based on factors of CLV model including length, recency, frequency, and monetary (LRFM) through data mining. Based on LRFM,...
متن کاملAn Artificial Bee Colony Inspired Clustering Solution to Prolong Lifetime of Wireless Sensor Networks
It is very difficult and expensive to replace sensor node battery in wireless sensor network in many critical conditions such as bridge supervising, resource exploration in hostile locations, and wildlife safety, etc. The natural choice in such situations is to maximize network lifetime. One such approach is to divide the sensing area of wireless sensor network into clusters to achieve high ene...
